Walter Hugh Adams, 79, of Kinston, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at UNC Lenoir Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Bryan Adams and Thelma Langston Adams and stepfather, James Wade.

Hugh was a faithful member of Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church. He served his country in the US Army. He was the owner of Kinston Sew & Vac and was well known in the community. He was always cheerful and kind to his many customers. Hugh had many special friends and shared many happy hours with them.

Hugh had great love for his family, from caring for his parents until their death to being a faithful loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Catherine and daughter, Crystal Adams Dixon and husband, Donald of Washington; grandchildren, Tracie Dixon of Raleigh and Lori Toler and husband, Macon of Vanceboro; great-grandchildren, Hunter Ellis, Peyton Toler and Macon Toler, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at Howard-Carter Funeral Home Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Jackson Heights FWB Church, 285 Camellia Street, Kinston, NC 28504 or Wounded Warriors at Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
